No one can deny that Elvis Presley was one of the most famous singers of all time. What many of those same people do not realize is that he was also a very well-known, established screen actor. He played in major Hollywood releases of all genres, playing parts ranging from a war hero to a prisoner. His acting chops also gave him the ability to perform new songs of his in his movies, spreading his talent to an even larger audience. While many people remember some of his biggest Hollywood successes, few people tend to remember that he was also in a fair share of bad movies.

Movies like Blue Hawaii and Change of Habit set the standard for poorly made movies that starred Presley. These movies sought to capitalize off of the King’s great musical and movie successes by tossing him into a low-budget, loosely-crafted film in hopes that his fans would not care, as long as they got to see him. Unfortunately, many fans did actually care and that is why Presley’s film career eventually took a turn for the worse. Less fans cared about his movies because they were becoming used to expecting sub-standard production and bad acting.

We all love The King. The music, the attitude, and the style. He had a quality that we can not define, yet we all can see. But who was the man behind him, the one who made those famous jump suits that everyone remembers?
Bill Belew. Not only did he make Elvis’s jumpsuits he also made the famous tight black leather outfit Elvis wore on his 1968 television special.

Bill Belew was a costume designer who’s career spanned over 50 years. Not only did he design for Elvis he also designed for Ella Fitzgearld and Gloria Estefan. However, when he designed Elvis’s jumpsuit, and then Elvis making it famous he helped completely change how people viewed rock ‘n’ roll fashion. Gone were the suits and ties that people would wear while performing. Now Stars like Elvis could wear extravagant outfits that matched their music. Belew designed it. Elvis made it famous.

Belew started working with Elvis in 1968 when Elvis wanted him to design an outfit for his 1968 comeback. This lead to a relationship that would produce the most iconic outfit in rock ‘n’ roll history. Elvis’s jumpsuit. By the 1970′s it is believed that Elvis had complete confidence in Belew’s work, and it showed. Belew made some of the most extravagant jumpsuits for The King. With Belew’s designs the King of Rock ‘n’ roll looked like a king. One of the best things about the designs were they did not hide the King’s masculinity. Only Belew could have designed an over the top outfit, and make it look like a King was meant to wear it.

Sadly in January of 2008 Bill Belew died after a long battle with diabetes in Palm Springs. He was a rock ‘n’ roll fashion icon who made designs fit for The King.

As you know from any directv documentary or concert you’ve seen, The King didn’t play by the rules. Elvis had his own unique style but it’s what set him apart and we think that’s cool – here are a few of Elvis’ iron clad fashion rules we still think hold true:
Tighter is Better: He was one of the first men to wear skin tight suits and his big white jumpsuit is a perfect example. Even when the King didn’t have the best figure of his life he still rocked what fit him the snuggest.
Always Dress: You’d never catch Elvis out and about in a tshirt and jeans – he always had dress slacks, a button down and typically a coat. Being dressed for any occasion never goes out of style and this is one thing Elvis definitely got right.
Play With Accessories: Blue suede shoes? Yup. Elvis loved to add some color and interest using shoes, ties and even his own hair – you should too! Spruce up any old outfit with something unexpected that you can change up the next time you wear it.

It may surprise some people that Elvis Presley was a good guitar player. As a small boy Elvis lived in the cusp of the delta, Tupelo Mississippi. The blues was born in this region among the small towns. Cradled near the borders of Tennessee and Alabama the sounds of the area must have been plentiful. Here he received his first used guitar and learned to pluck. One can imagine in the poor area of Tupelo many of the people played music live as entertainment. As an only child Elvis filled his lonely days with the chords from this Christmas present from his beloved Mother.

The sounds of Nat King Cole, Johnny Mercer and the Ink Spots would have filled the Presley household. During his formative years, music was changing. The combination of crooners, pop groups and big bands would mix with the neighborhood blues to provide the young man with a variety of musical influences. A naturally gifted artist Elvis learned to strum and tap out the notes by ear. Much later at Sam Philips Sun Records Elvis received a little more formal training from the many musicians he met. Playing the guitar brought Elvis into the world of music. The hits keep comin-: The King and the King James Bible

Elvis changed the world of music forever. His music too a while to appeal to many of his critics, but his movies never received the same treatment from the critics. His movies may not be great cinema, but they are a treat for any Elvis fan.An Elvis movie marathon is the perfect way to celebrate his life. Elvis made many movies in the 1960s. Elvis’s movies are generally full of fun and frivolity. The king’s movies are intended to be light- heated and often have women following the King, whether he wants them to or not.

The King of Rock and Roll will never be remembered as one of the greatest actors of all time. He does not need to be. His legacy and his legend took place upon the rock stage. If you are looking to get a larger glimpse into his personality and his life. The movies have the added advantage of being fun to watch. If you’re just looking for a way to enjoy the afternoon, you can go to Netflix, to the Internet or to your local video store and rent a bunch of Elvis movies.
Hoping for a bike on his 11th birthday, his mother Gladys instead gave him a guitar she bought at the local hardware store. It cost 7.75. While attending Humes High School, Elvis was on the boxing team. His favorite subjects in school were woodshop and electric shop. Elvis had a pet chimpanzee.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here. Yes, a swinnging from the trees primate named Scatter belonged to Elvis until it died in the late 60′s. Originally, the 40 pound chimp had appeared on a Memphis children’s show. Fascinated with Cadillacs, he not only collected them but gave them out as gifts as well. Some of those lucky enough to receive one include his mother, personal doctor and band members. In 1975 he bought one for a complete stranger. Elvis had an obsession with guns. He owned 40 guns, including sub-machine guns. In December 1970, President Nixon gave him a World War II .45-caliber Colt revolver. Smith & Wesson honored Elvis in 2007 with the release of the TCB Tribute Revolver.

One question that many Elvis fans has always wondered could Elvis have escaped Tom Parker. Many people are on the notion that Elvis could never leave Parker, as the Colonel had some kind of hold over Elvis. Even though Tom Parker had a somewhat weird relationship with Elvis it worked for both parties.

Elvis Presley was a loyal man who always kept his word even to Tom Parker. Yes, Elvis could have escaped Tom Parker, but most believe he would never do that for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons is Elvis felt without Tom Parker he would have never got the breaks he did. Tom Parker did have a lot of contacts and got top dollar for Elvis when he appeared. In a way, they both helped each other out, so it was a working relationship that worked well for both parties.

Tom Parker earned Elvis Presley’s trust and by doing that he knew Elvis would not go anywhere else. At times, people tried to convince Elvis to leave, but he believe very much in Colonel Tom Parker and what he was doing. In the end, Elvis trusted Tom Parker no matter decision good or bad. Leaving was an option, but one probably Elvis did not entertain much.
